Which one do you think you'll spend more time with? Or maybe a better question is, does your PC really need the upgrade? Or would it kill you to not be able to (buy and) play PS3 games?

I've never been one to need (want, yes, need, not really) the latest and greatest, so that's why I offer questions in response to your questions...just trying to figure out your situation and how you value things.

If I applied it to my own situation...let's say I have $250 to spend on computer upgrades or a Wii...I'd end up buying the console. Because all my friends are getting one and I don't want to be left out while they're all playing the cool games...and peer pressure (and desire) is a b*tch. I use my computer every day...it plays GW well enough (1Ghz Celeron, 768MB RAM, GeForce 4 Ti4200) and does everything else I need it to...so no real reason for me to upgrade. But I have to have the new Nintendo console, even if it'll (eventually) get less use than my computer.

So which is more important to you?

The last time I checked the price shouldn't really matter and the dvd playback on a console is not a reason to buy a console.
Tell that to 50% of the people who bought the PS2 within the first year of its release....

HD-DVD is ncie and all, but Blue-Ray is the way we should go to the future. Sure it's more expensive now, but it's got 3 times the storage capability of he HD-DVD and has alot more support behind it as well.

Personally, I think it's too early for any new media type period, but I guess we'll just have to see where things go.

As far as those who say "software quality" outwieghs "graphics quality" - you are correct and screwed at the same time by sticking withthe Wii. The Playstation is notorious for its titles. Nintendo's only exclusives come from Nintendo itself. Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc... but no 3rd party company does anything exclusively for Nintendo. Big companies like EA, Sqaure-Enix, Namco, etc.. spend all their time working on the PS3 and Xbox 360 for excusive titles. You'll see some multi-platform titles, but in the end, it's the graphics you want there. PS3 and even Xbox have the software and the graphics. Nintendo just hasteh Nintendo titles and that's it. Don't expect to see Final Fantasy XIII on the Wii or Halo 3, or even Dead or Alive 4. Don't expect to see the upcoming popular PC released like UT2k7, Battlefield, Call of Duty, etc.. all those will be released on the systems that can handle their graphics needs. even Valve software is released it's latest Half-Life installemnts for Xbox and PS3... Nintendo is at the end of a rope and it's about to break... I love Nintendo to death and am an old school gamer from the NES/SNES, even teh n64, but the Wii will be just another disappointment and another reason why Nintendo needs to stick to what they're good at these days. The DS is awesome, the rule the portable world... but the console world belongs to the big boys now. The Wii will be only successful due to its price, but in the end, it won't take any of the market share and will suffer the fate of the Dreamcast, hopefully the losses won't be too bad so we can se more gret portabel systems/titles!

1: the wii is coming out with call of duty 3 (oooh, burned).
2: when it comes down to it, graphics aren't important. what games need are great gameplay, a nice story, replay value, and they need to have something that no other game has. the ps3 doesn't seem to be coming out with many major games other than fall of man, and the xbox 360 has already had system crashes. ppl will buy the wii because of its inovative games that no other system has.

Regardless, the Wii is the only system that is going to have the titles I care about. That pretty much trumps all. On no other console will I be able to get Super Smash Brothers Brawl.

And it's not like there won't be a lot of 3rd-party games on the Wii...the US release list on IGN lists ~90-100 Wii titles and only 1/4 of them are 1st-party. Looks to me like there's lots of support, especially Ubisoft, Activision, and SEGA. I just checked Gamespot and they list 124 games for the Wii.

As far as exclusivity...sure, a lot of the games released for the Wii will be released on other consoles. I could play Rayman: Raving Rabbids on any of the consoles...but the Wii will have an exclusive control scheme. That's something the other consoles will lack...and the PS3 controller's 'motion' features don't even come close. BTW, Ubisoft, the company making RRR? They've got an exclusive for the Wii called Red Steel. So there's one for you.

BTW, Call of Duty 3 will be on the Wii...dang it, Giga Strike, I take too long to research and type my replies!

Exactly. If you play a game like Chrono Trigger, its graphics are just 2d, old graphics. However, I still find myself playing it for hours on end because of the gameplay. (Best RPG made ever IMO).

As for the PS3...Im not getting it. Its 600 bucks and i would rather put that money into other things. What console am I getting? The 360....because of Halo 3. I see no outstanding title I want to pay $600 just to play on the PS3.
Also, whoever said technology is evolving, and it will get more expensive....why? Why would it get more expensive if it evolves? If it evolves it should become even cheaper to make. So, in your line of thinking...its fine if the PS4 is 1000 bucks, and the PS5 is 2000 or 3000 bucks?

These are my opinions, and everyone can have their own, but its simply not worth it to pay that much for a console.

Everyone is too fixed on the "price" thing. Price isn't even the issue. For what each system has, it's worth its price. And as been sid before xBox360 is nly it's price b/c it's being sold 40% below cost...

Each system has unique games, yes. Everyone has their likes/dislikes, yes.

In the end though, the "popular" titles are what matters. Sure Smash Brothers is popular, Sure Mario is too, but not int eh grand scheme of things. It's not Final Fanatasy, It's not Unreal Tournament and/or Half-Life 2. It's not the titles that drive the gaming community today. Those are just a few examples. Sure the Nintendo will have some games put on it from Square-Enix for example, but it won't be their top titles or their best for that matter.

The PS3 ad the 360 are essntially PCs They are computers that you cna enjoy from your comfy chair or couch. PS3 even will have the popular program "Xfire" on it to see who's whoa nd what's what on all the online games. That's awesome! X-Box Live has some great content for gamers o f the new and old alike! They eep releasing stuff more and more each week.

Truth is, I hate/despise the 360.
I love Sony and I loe Nintendo, but I look at the big picture of things, I look at who has what in the terms of "survival" for the masses, not just the few who like specific games. Sure Nintendo has an old school folowing, but all of the ne folowing gears towards the newer names/systems. Therefore the bigger titles are there too.

In the end it'll be a rt race betweenthe 360 and PS3. Can Nintendo sell alot of Wiis? Yeah, they can, but it won't be anything compared to the massivenes of the 2 bigger systems.

Unfortunately, I'm the one paying the price and, for me (as well as many others) price is the issue.

I want a game console that does one thing. Play games. I don't need/want it to play DVDs, Blueray discs, do my laundry, and mow the lawn. Actually, do the laundry and mow the lawn might be nice. And I realize the tech justifies the price...but I don't need the tech. I don't need another PC, unless it plays GW better than my current rig (which most rigs are better, but it plays well enough) and can run all the applications I use. I don't want to play Halo, Final Fantasy, Dead or Alive, or Unreal Tournament (for the record, I have played those games, but they hold no interest for me...well, not any more, and certainly much less than SSBB). My $600 is better spent elsewhere. Of course, that's just my situation and valuation. Your situation/valuation is different. And that's OK. We can be different.

And regardless of what the PS3 can do, it still can't do what I require...the ability to play Wii games and use that sweet, sweet controller.

As far as titles 'driving the gaming community'...it's exactly the titles that are pushing my friends and I to purchase a Wii. There's nothing you can say to convince me and my friends to get a PS3 instead of a Wii. We belong to different gaming community subsets. Sorry.

And I'm not trying to convince you to buy a Wii. To each their own. But saying the Wii is a horrible console at this point in time is like writing a scathing review for a book you've never read.

Still interested in which direction Sir Skullcrasher will go...if he hasn't already tired of the inevitable console war.

I am tired of this console war but something tells me that PS3 will be the one to get out of all three. My choices has be narrowed down. I can either try to preorder my system online through different gaming sites or go on Nov 16 or early on 17 to wait for the system launch.

But my other choice is to ignore PS3 for now and wait till early next year to get it.

Usually the customer must reserve a copy to buy one since there's no extras but I do find the long lines on launch dates amusing since most will be turned away

If you opt to wait in line on release day, rumor is there will be plenty to go around. But grain of salt and all that...it's just a rumor.

Devil may cry 4...that will not disappoint unless it was like DMC 2 but it's unlikely

Here's how I answer the question.

Why buy an overrated expensive consol, when I can just play the games on my computer?

Damn, I should have done that. That would've paid for the Wii right there. Maybe I'll camp out for the release and see if anyone offers. Otherwise, I'll just have to tell the store clerk I changed my mind. Then go home and sleep.

Because you don't get to enjoy the new plastic smell.

Funny how peoples are willing to pay over 1000 - 2500 for the PS3 when the preorder ran out on gaming stores such as Ebgames and Gamestop. Don't they know you still can go to Best Buy, Target, Walmart, and other places on Nov 17 to see if you can get one?
